.. 1940s Mexican Handpainted Skirt

.. These handpainted circle skirts from Mexico are always in demand, but this one in particular caught my eye. Of course, the vivid hand painting, and hand applied sequins are very pretty, but what I love are the jugs, pitchers and cups all around. Most of the vessels have a woman's name written... Lola, Anita, Paula, Amine, Eva, Lupita, Julita, Mariquita, Margarita.... Sooooo sweet. The garlands around the hem and waist are really cool... they remind me of pot leaves and passion flowers.

..The dress closes with hooks on one set of belts, then the other set crosses over and ties. The skirt has a label that reads Hand Painted Guaranteed Washable ARTGREEN Heco en Mexico. It was sized a Large, then that was crossed out and a M was written in. I am guessing some boutique had it at some point after the sizing changed and adjusted the tag to be in line with modern sizing. The waist can be adjusted a bit from the measurements below, as the hooks can be moved and the ties can make adjustments as well.

condition: excellent, no flaws to note
