| .. Patrick Kelly: 1980s Tunic | |||
|
..Patrick Kelly was really only producing garments under his own label for about 5 years. His life and genius was abruptly ended in 1990 by AIDS at the peak of his career. He came from humble roots, and out of pure talent, charisma and chutzpah, he became the toast of Paris, New York and Milan. He had a knack for finding the fun in fashion, and was able to translate it into fabulous, wearable works of art. ..This sexy little tunic/dress is a classic example of Kelly's whimsical talent. It is created from an incredible cotton, that is light, airy and sheer. The upper portion of the dress is pretty straightforward... no surprises here... but move on down to the lower half and you will find it is quite incredible. Again, the front looks like a pretty straightforward shirtdress, but then you find it is slit all the way up, almost to the top of the hip. Then you find the dramatic draping of the back panel, which is actually a rectangle , so if you hold out the sides they will stand out a good 19" from the side seam. When they hang down, they create that amazing draped effect you see in the pictures. The back of the waist is slightly gathered as well, creating even more interest, and a very sexy posterior.
