.. Coco Chanel: 1930s Deco Dress

..It is my privilege to offer this exquisite gown to the world. It has been sequestered in my possession for far too long, and now it is time to pass it along to the next proud owner.
This wonderful gown of silk velvet was fashioned in Paris around 1930, most likely Coco herself was close by, overseeing its construction. It was gowns like this that made Chanel famous. From the open shoulders, to the full, luxurious sleeves, to the draping cowl neckline to the fine tucks at the waist... this dress has been at the pinnacle of fashion for nearly 100 years. Turner Wilcox shows an illustration of a coat by Chanel circa 1930 with very similar lines and tucks in his book The Mode in Costume (p376)

..It is in wonderful condition. For its age, it is pretty mint. It was gently worn, probably only once, then stored away. I just had it cleaned and conserved, so it will surely endure for another 100 years.

condition: Very good
