.. Madame Eta Hentz: 1940s Goddess Gown

..Here we have a very rare creation from Eta Hentz. Hungarian born Madame Eta was one of the premier dressmakers in New York in the early 30s and 40s. According to the Met's new exhibit featuring one of Hentz's gowns, she was best known for her Grecian-themed collection of 1943.

.. The metal back zipper leads me to believe that this creation was not from the 1943 collection, though it definitely shows elements of Greek style. I rather think it was made several years after.

.. The fabric is a crepe, perhaps rayon or synthetic, there seems to be a good amount of stretch to it. It is beautifully made and very uniquely designed. I love the petal detail at the right shoulder and left hip. From the left hip a long sash hangs, adorned with a mirror and jeweled, gold bullion so you can check your lipstick by just raising the sash. The dress has fabulous ruching and a small train in the back. It is unlined.
