.. Chanel: 1960s Infinity Chain Belt

..This wonderful belt dates somewhere between 1954 and 1971 (dated by the Chanel stamp on the hook), this was, of course, during the lifetime of Coco Chanel. The belt was most likely designed by the great Robert Goossens, and it does show his style and love of antiquities. It is a wonderful piece, aside from its historical value and rarity, it is magnificent as well.

.. The belt is a series of links linked with jump rings. Each link is actually two infinity symbols soldered together longways. The infinity symbols are etched with little lines giving the links a rough, ancient quality.  The belt starts with the hook soldered to a double link. That link connects to the long body of the belt, and also to the another row of chain that creates the famous Chanel look.  The second chain continues for about 14" then connects to the main chain.  The chain ends with a 1 1/2" charm that reminds me of Byzantine jewelry. Each side is slightly convex, each side is the same pattern, but what is amazing is if you actually look closely at the applied dots, you can see that it is not identical, proving to me that the decoration was hand applied, making this a true couture piece. The center of the charm has the CC logo. Its not as flashy as the modern copies Chanel now creates, rather its a subtle refined hint at the origin.

..Buying a Chanel belt is a thrill. Buying one that was made during Coco Chanel's lifetime, approved and influenced by the grand lady herself... well, its really beyond words. This belt is not only rare and beautiful, its also in excellent condition. The gold plating is perfect. It looks like it could have been sold just yesterday.
