.. Jean Varon, AKA John Bates was one of the great British designers of the 1960s-70s. This magnificent dress is a classic example of his brilliance and style.

.. The dress is made of a heavy crepe (acetate/nylon) with sheer poly and velvet inserts at the bodice, and a band of velvet at the hem.

..The labels are under the rose portion so I may have it backwards... I like it better this way... it fits beautifully both ways so you can really choose which way you want to wear it. The closure is a zipper to the sheer area, then two velvet covered buttons at the top.

.. I just adore the full angel sleeves, finished with a pretty tassel on each point.
