.. Treacy Lowe: 1970s Printed Silk Flutter Dress

.. Kathleen Lowe Howden started working in fashion in 1948 as a buyer for Marshall Fields in their Import Bazaar. She also worked for Jaeger as their merchandising coordinator. In the early 1970s she started Treacy Lowe with her husband Kenneth. Her work in the import business must have connected her with the best textiles and garment manufacturers in India, as every Treacy Lowe garment I have seen is that totally chic 70s Indian bohemian we love so much.

.. This little darling is made of light as air peach silk, printed with thousands of tiny flowers of pink and orange, with tiny green and blue leaves. The trim at the bottom shows more of the blue, and a bit more of the pink. The bodice is completely hand smocked in a lattice pattern from shoulder to waist. The bodice closes with silk covered buttons to below the waist. The edges of the flutter sleeves were all hand rolled. The skirt is full and flowy. The matching tie belt can be removed and worn in the hair.
