.. Sybil Connolly is best known for her pleated gowns, but I do think her crochet dresses are equally impressive in terms of style, elegance and pure craftsmanship. It must have taken weeks to complete this dress. It is hand crochet (cotton) from top to bottom. The silk satin ribbon is laced through the pattern in little loops that protrude giving little boucle licks througout. The base of the dress is silk taffeta that shines through the open areas so actually this dress is three shades of jet black.
.. The style of the dress is simple elegance, Connolly's forte'. A similar style crochet ribbon dress by Connolly sold at Chrisites for nearly $3,000 winter 2009.
