.. 1940s Chrysanthemum Print Silk Dress

.. This is a sweet little dress. It is unlabeled, but it is obviously not homemade, nor is it haute couture. It was very well made, with incredible detail... like the unique smocked detail at the throat, and the divine loops of tiny ruffles along the hem. The silk is printed with this amazing crazy chrysanthemum floral pattern that is really quite stunning, in shades of lime and forest green, plum and ruby red on a chocolate brown background.

.. The neckline is very delicately pleated to the smocked detail, then the pleats open gently to accentuate the bust. There are 11 silk covered buttons up the back that close with matching loops on the other side. There is also a row of snaps on the left side of the waist. The shoulders are not padded.. instead there are small half circles of silk over a stiffer fabric that were sewn in to add a little height. There are belt loops on the sides, but no belt remains with the dress.

condition: immaculate... one of the best preserved 40s dresses I have ever seen
