.. Issey Miyake PLANTATION: 1980s Belted Kaftan

..Before he was the Prince of Pleats, Issey Miyake had his Plantation line of organic (meaning natural, of the earth, not commercial organic certified), chic and wearable clothing. The pieces were ready to wear, but were so unique and hip, they developed a near cult following that propelled Issey into stardom. This amazing dress is a testament to the grace and fabulousness of Miyake's early work.

.. The fabric is super soft black cotton that flows and drapes in perfect harmony with the style of the piece. Its a wide, luxurious tunic style kaftan. Worn without the belt it has a cocoon effect. With the belt it takes on the look of a Grecian tunic. The fabric of the split sleeves doubles under the arms to give that awesome wing like effect. It is very unique and terribly wonderful. The two giant pockets on the skirting are functional, and add to the drama of the piece.  There is a single button closure at the neck that can be worn open if desired. The incredible belt is finished with tiny brass rings... the gilding on the lily so to speak.
