| .. Deco Egyptian Revival: 1930s Voided Velvet Dress | |||
|
.. In the early 1920s, the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb sparked a new and glorified interest in the ancient Egyptian culture, resulting in a great deal of "merchandising" and hoopla. From then on Egyptian motifs have shown up in fashion time and time again. This little beauty is a prime example of Egyptian Deco style. ..The dress is a marvel. Bottle green burn out voided velvet (silk/rayon). The pattern is delightful, with a design that imitates a pharaoh's collar at the neck, and the large sun pattern in the skirting. The dress is long with lots of flow and grace. The kimono style sleeves are really wonderful and unique. There are 6 buttons up the back, and side snaps and a hook at the waist. There is a matching belt. It is shown pictured over a green slip. The slip is not included with the sale, and one will be needed to wear the dress.
