.. Jean Patou: 1940s Ensemble

.. Dating this piece is very difficult. Stylistically, it is very 1930s, but the block print label has me confused, as I have never seen it before on early Patou. The fine, metal side zipper leads me to believe it is from the 1940s, but in the first few years following Patou's death in 1939, there was not much going on in terms of fashion. It is probable the is from an early collection by Gerard Pipart or Marc Bohan, who both designed for the house of Patou in the early 1950s.

.. The guipure lace is some of the finest I have ever seen and is obviously hand made. The dress is lined in silk.

..The dress is a simple straight sheath, with a wonderful ruffle at the hem. The jacket is also simple, with the ruffle at the cuffs and a scalloped edge along the neck and lapels. It is a timeless and elegant piece.

condition: EXCELLENT, with not a single flaw to mention.
