.. Baila: 1960s Datura Silk Dress

.. I have seen all types of flowers printed on silk. Roses, daisies, forget-me-knots, violets, mums, even bird of paradise, but never have I seen a datura blossom used as a floral pattern. Datura, also know as Angel Trumpet is a night bloomer that gives off a sweet, ethereal smell. It is hallucinogenic, and has been used in cultures all over the world for medicinal and spiritual uses. It is really a joy to see this magical flower on a vintage dress.

.. I have never seen the Baila label before.  Judging from the fabric and care labels, I am assuming this was made in Italy. The metal side zipper would date it to the 1950s or 60s. The printed layer is chiffon over black silk. The sleeves are unlined and sheer. The bodice has buttons neck to waist. There are two belt loops on the side, but no belt remains (I would use a simple black leather belt). This is a seriously rare and wonderful dress.
