.. Jean Varon: 1960s Peasant Dress

.. Jean Varon, AKA John Bates produced a wide varitiy of garments in 1960s and 1970s. Ranging from sexy, mod to glorious caftans and ethnic dresses.

.. This sweet dress is rayon/poly crepe, unlined, very sheer and light. The print brings to mind the Celia Birtwell fabrics created for Ossie Clark, with little blossoms falling from the bodice, growing larger towards the hips, with baskets of flowers along the hem. The base is black, the flowers are blue to the hips, then blue with a little red. Its really a fabulous print.

.. The neckline has a sweet ruffle with tiny periwinkle flowers. The bodice is pintucked, with red stitching and blue hand stitches. The sleeves are really cool, like little angel wings.

.. This dress is so pretty worn loose, or belted.

condition: excellent, no flaws to note
