.. Madam Gres: 1950s Mohair Coat

.. Though this is not Gres couture, it was produced in Paris, designed by Madam Gres, made under special authorisation by G Mendes. I am assuming Mendes was a coatmaker, and that Gres contracted them to produce this gorgeous coat.

It is by far one of the most delightful coats I have ever cuddled up in. The fabric is a warm, shaggy mohair. The pattern is sublime, stripes of maroon and burgundy.. the coat is put together so beautifully, seamed so the pattern creates a dramatic V down the front, back and down the arms.

The little notched collar can be worn up or down. The coat is lined in black silk taffeta, with deep, hidden side pockets at the hips, and shallow, hand warmer pockets angled right above the waist, more for design than usability. The coat closes with three large, black plastic buttons
