.. Jeanne Lanvin: 1930s Dress & Jacket

.. This dress is so much more beautiful in person that it shows in the photos. The color is a deep navy blue. The fabric is either a silk, or rayon crepe, with a bit of blue nylon mesh at the top. I love the way the mesh creates the illusion of a strapless bodice. The bodice is smooth to the natural waist, then the skirt is pin-tuck pleated, starting at 1/2" at the waist and graduating to 1 1/2" pleats at the hem. The workmanship is remarkable.

..The little jacket is unlabeled, but it is trimmed in the same fabric as the dress so I am sure they belong together. It is made from heavy guipure lace, trimmed in the crepe that was cut in a scalloped design... actually, it is alternating half oval, and half diamond pattern. Again, the workmanship is incredible. The jacket has little arrow shaped pockets at the chest. This is a very Lanvin detail. You would want to put little scarves in the pockets to show them off. The 15 amber colored buttons bring the whole ensemble together perfectly.
.. This is an "adaptation" of a Jeanne Lanvin design. This means it was not produced by Lanvin, but was an authorised copy, probably produced in the US for a speciality shop. The design, workmanship and materials were usually dead-on with a labeled adaptation, and I know these were not cheap, as they tend to turn up at estates of socialites and heiresses.
