| .. Jacques Fath: 1950s Coat | |||
|
.. I showed the coat to a young textile designer who was blown away by the fabric. She said it is a jacquard, but she was baffled by the intricate weave. It is definitely silk, and is a sturdy, heavy weave. The fabric is ribbed the long ways, with cross fibers in gray and pale yellow. ..Aside from the incredible fabric, the cut of the out is outstanding as well. It is pure Fath innovation! The overall look is a cocoon coat, but it has some intricate details that even the great Poiroit never dreamed to execute. ..The sleeves are the most incredible things. They are gathered up the underside creating that stylish puffy look. The coat closes in the front with little hooks, with beautiful lapels that end at the back of the neck with a huge button (a very Fath touch). ..The condition of the coat is excellent. The silk lining has been damaged just under the neck in the back (probably from a hanger), but beyond that, the outward appearance of the coat is perfect. ..The label shows this was imported directly to Lord & Taylor, a very exclusive New York based department store.
