.. Nina Ricci: 1970s Lace Evening Dress

.. This dress has the classic Nina Ricci look, though I believe it was designed by the great Gerard Pipart, who had worked with Balmain, Fath and Jean Patou before joining Ricci in the late 1960s.

.. The lace is quite remarkable. The base mesh is a olive/brown, and the pattern is a metallic golden green. The lace is very fine, and very rich looking. The base fabric is brown silk satin, the belt is a olive satin.

.. The dress is beautifully styled. There are magnificent pleats from the neck to waist. The sleeves also have the deep pleats, and no lining, so the overlap of the lace creates the illusion of strips of fabric within the sleeve. When you open the pleats you see the great expanse of lace used to create the effect. The upper part of the arm is all pintucked for a very clean look. The skirt is also all pintucked until 18" from the hem, then the pleats explode into an enchanting sweep. The dress closes in the back with a fine metal zipper. This is one of the most elabroate dresses when you study the construction, but the look is subtle elegance
